The era of the F-35 has begun. The 1st new Dutch fighter aircraft landed on October 31, 2019 at Leeuwarden Air Base. They will replace all F-16s from this air base in Friesland and from 2024 they will also replace all F-16s from Volkel Air Base in Brabant. F-001 to F-008 are produced by Lockheed and will remain in the USA for training and testing purposes, F-009 and up are produced in Cameri (Italy) and are delivered to the Netherlands.
